Southmoore High School is a class 6A school that opened in August 2008. During that short amount of time our program has earned numerous awards and honors including multiple OSSAA Sweepstakes awards with accent, Oklahoma Bandmasters Association State Marching Band Finalist, numerous superior ratings in all ensembles, and two Oklahoma Music Educators Association Honor Band Performance.
Wind and Percussion instrument training begins in the seventh grade. Students receive their first two years of instruction primarily at Highland West and Southridge Junior Highs. Once entering high school in ninth grade the program offers many ensembles in which to participate.

All students enrolled in first hour band participate in marching band from May through the end of October. The remainder of the year students play their instrument in one of our three Wind Bands. In addition, all band students participate in chamber music ensembles during the spring semester. Students perform for an average of 3 to 4 concerts and approximately 8 to 10 contests throughout the year.
Students have the option of participating in activities beyond their first/second hour requirements. All band students may enroll in one of our two jazz bands. Additionally, students wishing to improve their colorguard skills may choose to join our Winterguard during the early spring semester. Students may also audition for all-district and all-state band or participate in the state solo contest. Furthermore, the program offers percussion activities to percussion students and highly motivated wind instrument players.
The administration of instruction, logistical support, and financial contributions in a large band program requires a great deal of adult support. Parents and Patrons have the unique opportunity to participate in your student’s music education through participation in the Southmoore Parents, Patrons, and Alumni Association. The Department staff is made up of three full time directors and many hired professionals.
